Announcement to Run for NC HOUSE DISTRICT 80
I announced my plans to run for NC House Jan. 2017. “During my tenure as county commissioner, I have worked hard to maintain sound fiscal responsibility, enhance the quality of life for our community, support public safety and create an economic environment that is conducive to companies in choosing Davidson County to locate their business,” Jarvis said in the release. “As a commissioner, I have gained first-hand experience on the impact that legislation has on counties and cities and have served on several statewide committees for the NC Association of County Commissioners that are working to reduce the impact of unfunded national and state mandates.”

Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory visited Lexington on Friday to speak with hundreds of female voters about jobs, the private sector and several other key political issues this election season.
The campaign stop featured the last of McCrory's "Conversation with Women" luncheons, a series of midday question and answer fundraisers that he's held across the state. "
"This is the heart of the economic corridor along (Interstate 85), and the corridor I grew up in," McCrory said. "These luncheons have been so successful, and I've learned a lot from them."

Traditional Family Values Rally to be held Saturday April 7, 2012
A Traditional Family Values Rally will take place Saturday in downtown Thomasville at the Gazebo on Main Street.
Dr. Ron Baity, pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, will be the keynote speaker. Baity also serves as the chaplain for the Winston-Salem Police Department and serves on the board of the N.C. Christian School Association.
The Thomasville rally is a precursor to the Return America Rally to be held April 20 in Raleigh. Return America began in 2007 as a movement to have America and its legislatures return to Judeo-Christian principles. Along with speaking of the marriage amendment vote that would ban same-sex marriage in North Carolina to come in May, information will also be available to allow the public to register to vote.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. and is expected to last one to two hours, said Return America staff member Jerry Pitman.

Davidson County Health board likely to advise tobacco ban on all county-owned property
Steve Jarvis, Republican candidate for Davidson County Commissioner, said he had serious reservations about such a regulation. "I'm concerned about how much government involvement is in our lives," he told the board. "I've never been a smoker and I don't plan to smoke. I think we could put designated (smoking) areas without putting government regulations telling us what we are or are not to do."

GOP passes marriage amendment resolution at convention
Another area of business Saturday was the passing of a resolution by the party, backing the marriage amendment bill that will be on the May ballot. The amendment will give voters the opportunity to mandate state policy that would result in marriage only being recognized between a man and woman.
The resolution included language that said the party was "affirming that marriage as the union of one man and one woman is in the public good and serves the interests of men and women, of children, and of society itself."
