NC SENATE DISTRICT 30 ISSUES
Promote a Quality Education system for our Children
There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to educating our children and preparing them for the future. We owe it to our children and the future of our state to provide quality education that offers a range of choices in order to best meet the academic needs and abilities of every student. We need policies that afford parents and students choice at the local level, within our higher education system, as well as a wide range of vocational education options. Our community colleges are successfully training our workforce to compete in a global and diverse economy and I recognize the importance of continuing to develop high quality vocational programs so that our students have even more options.
Our Children and Grandchildren are the future of this State. One of our government’s highest priorities must be keeping our communities and schools safe. I want us to continually provide a quality education for our children. As your Senator, Steve will work to ensure that our schools have the resources needed.
Serve the People, Promote Jobs and Lower Taxes
The signs of a strong economy are controlled spending, low taxes and a balanced budget—all policies I have fought for during my time on the Davidson County Board of Commissioners and NC State House. These policies work to attract businesses and jobs to our state and local communities, grow our economy and keep hard-earned money where it belongs—in local communities, businesses and with the individuals and families who earn it. Limiting government spending allows businesses and individuals to use their resources to build our communities, innovate solutions to problems, and provide economic opportunities and jobs that continue to make North Carolina a Great State.
Address Regulatory Reform
Our state leaders have done a great job to reduce corporate tax rates, control government spending and implement policies that have helped our state’s economy to grow in many areas. And while we continue to enjoy a strong statewide economy, there are some areas of the state that need greater support to provide jobs and build stronger local economies.
As a business owner no one knows better that Steve that excessive regulations harm economic growth. The state has the ability to adjust regulatory burden (such as compliance and reporting requirements) as they apply to small businesses. The answer to regulatory reform would be have all necessary rules to be reviewed and go though the adoption process as if they were just submitted.
Regulatory reform will benefit all communities rural and urban, enabling job growth and economic prosperity. Steve will continue for work for you to ensure these issues are addressed.
Steve Jarvis - Issues for 2016 County Commissioner
"A Commissioner for the People"
Jobs, the Economy & Free Enterprise:
According to the N.C. Employment Security Commission, Davidson County’s unemployment rate was 10.5% as of December 2011. Steve understands that we must create a business-friendly environment in which small businesses and entrepreneurs have the opportunity to grow, prosper and create jobs in Davidson County. As your County Commissioner, he will fight regulations that unnecessarily weigh down our free enterprise system and push to ensure that our county’s rules and regulations are clear, reasonable and consistently enforced.
Accountability: (It’s Your Money)
Steve understands that “public” money is your money. You work hard to earn a living and, as a taxpayer, you entrust our government with a portion of your hard-earned money. As your County Commissioner, Steve will work to ensure that our county government makes wise use of your tax dollars.
Low Taxes:
As your County Commissioner, Steve will fight to keep your taxes as low as possible so that you can keep more of your hard-earned money. Steve will not vote for a pay increase that would benefit him personally as a commissioner when our economy demands that county offices cut their budgets.
Transparency: (Open and Direct Communication)
In America, government at all levels belongs to the people. As a Davidson County resident, you have the right to know how your government does its business. As your County Commissioner, Steve will work to improve the transparency of county government.
Education:
Our Children and Grandchildren are the future of this County. One of our government’s highest priorities must be keeping our communities and schools safe. Our County Schools are some of the best in the state. I want us to continually provide a quality education for our children. As your County Commissioner, Steve will work to ensure that our schools have the resources needed.
